Message from our Founders
Mr. Frank J. Bolaños
Co-Founder & Manager
When Mr. Bolaños was named to the Miami-Dade County school board in 2001, the statewide announcement read “Frank has a lifetime of community service” that will serve our students well. Frank parlayed his passion for helping others and business acumen to help reform and improve the fourth largest school district in the country, in collaboration with his fellow board members and school district employees. He became a firm supporter of parental choice, firmly grounded in the conviction that what matters most is finding the educational vehicle that best fits the needs of each individual child. Mr. Bolaños believes that no one is better fit to make that decision than that child’s parent.
The time Frank served as a member and chairman of the school board developed a life-long passion and love for the development of the whole child. He reveled in the satisfaction of watching children grow both as a scholar, as well as a responsible and caring human being. It was with this heartfelt devotion that Avant Garde Academy® and now Agility were born. Mr. Bolaños met with like-minded community leaders, activists and parents and coalesced those efforts into the formation of a board of directors and advisory boards to oversee the development and opening of the schools
A talented team of individuals that share a “student first” philosophy and understand the learning community that they serve now oversee and lead the Avant Garde Academy® and Agility schools. This team continues to grow, both in size and personal development. “We invite you to join this crusade if you share our passion and want to dedicate your life to something greater than yourself”, stated Frank Bolaños.
Frances C. Bolaños,
Co-Founder
“I am proud and honored that the Avant Garde Academy project started in the dining room of our home”, Frances Bolaños likes to say. Frances has taken a love for children and their well-being as the bedrock for the Avant Garde Academy (AGA) schools, the Avant Garde Foundation, and AGA Scholars preschool and now Agility. Mrs. Bolaños served the needs of hundreds of families and their children with the YMCA and Charlie’s, before embarking on the Avant Garde Academy project with her husband, Frank.. She was Executive Director of a large YMCA in Florida and Development Officer for Charlie’s, a foster child care agency.
Frances searched for a name that would represent the drive for the development of the whole child with innovative, cutting-edge methods, during the design stage of the school. She suggested the name Agility and Avant Garde Academy, which was received with great approval. Mrs. Bolaños played a key role in the development of the charter school applications and implementation plans for the AGA schools. She has led the creation and growth of before and aftercare programs and preschools that augment and support the mission of the schools.
Mrs. Bolaños provides stakeholders with valuable support in management and operations to facilitate the success of the mission-driven schools and organizations that make up the AGA and Agility families.
